Is there anything better than slipping on your brand new trainers, going for that first run and the accompanying feeling that you are running on air, bouncing off every footstep? No, there is no better feeling and as an avid runner (and female) I cannot wait for that time to come when I can get my paws on a new set of shiny new shoes.
Now, the reason for this post is that I, like many other runners have my favourite shoes. Ever since I can remember, when the time came for new footwear I stayed faithful to Asics, notably their Gel Kayano model. This was my go - to faithful training partner. Just writing this I feel like I have had an illicit affair, and this is how and why I strayed....
So, I am flicking through the March issue of Runners World when I come across a vision; a blonde haired beauty floating through the night sky buoyed up by her winged.....trainers? A vision reminiscent of a cross between Burne-Jones' 'Vesper in the night Sky' and Hermes, the messenger of the Greek gods. However, instead of wearing leather thong sandals or bare feet she is wearing a pair of Brooks Trance 10. My attention is grabbed. In a world of sports advertising where professional athletes such as David Beckham or Usain Bolt are the normal go-to for campaigns, here was a campaign that asked for a closer inspection, a deviation from the norm. The lady is seemingly in a trance (makes sense) and in raptures about this run she is apparently on. I needed to find out more.
Being a mild over pronator I am picky about my trainers, which explains why I have stayed faithful to my Asics Kayano for so long. This flaxen haired beauty made me cheat. I wanted a pair of these trainers, I NEEDED a pair of these trainers.
So I ordered them and they came....I fell instantly in love. After all being female my shoes, even my running ones still have to be pretty. I am exceedingly pleased with my purchase and am glad I took the risk of trying something new. There are different buying options, alongside selecting your size, the trainers also come in different widths so you can be sure you have the exact right shape for your feet.
After reading, the main 'science bit' on the Trance 10 is that the innovative 'Brooks DNA' runs full length through the shoe. In layman's terms this means that with each footstrike or change in pace, the shoe moulds to your foot to create a unique ride and ensure cushioning and support is distributed to the right places. The shoe is therefore very hardworking, not to mention light and I felt supported everywhere I should be.
I would definitely be interested to find out how many other females this campaign reached out to and made them purchase this shoe. I know that in my case they definitely got their Marketing Mix dead right in terms of their product, promotion, place and price. I have been converted....Until the next innovative Marketing campaign comes along....
